Born in 1989 in Uithoorn, the Netherlands, Anouk Jonker currently lives and works in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Anouk moved to Canada at an early age and spent her formative years developing her artwork. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011 from College of the Arts in San Francisco before moving back to B.C. and pursuing her career as an artist. She continues to develop her painterly style, and has exhibited her paintings across Europe and North America. Her studio practice is divided into two categories: contemporary fine art practice and portraiture. The imagery she uses in her art is influenced by her European upbringing in a rural Canadian landscape. Her current body of work explores the physicality of paint and the purpose of representational art in society.

Studio – Victoria, BC

Anouk’s current body of work embraces a melody of classical subjects with large canvases and a full-bodied use of oil paint. By combining various historical references, such as classical Western art or early photography, the paintings spark both a sense of familiarity and ambiguity.
